Annie Wang Receives the SPIRIT of DOM Award

About the SPIRIT of DOM Award

This award honors Department of Medicine staff and non-faculty academics who demonstrate exceptional dedication, service, and commitment to UCSF’s PRIDE Values. Established in 2017, the award recognizes individuals whose work goes beyond their formal responsibilities to make a meaningful impact on colleagues, patients, and the broader community. Award recipients serve as role models, inspiring others through their professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and positive influence. The award celebrates those who help create a more supportive, inclusive, and effective workplace within the Department of Medicine and UCSF. Ultimately, the SPIRIT of DOM Award highlights the extraordinary contributions of staff who make UCSF a better place to work and serve. Nominees are selected by a volunteer committee of staff peers from across the department. UCSF and the Department of Medicine do not use race, gender, sex, or other protected categories or proxies for protected categories in the selection process. Awards are presented twice annually, in the spring and fall.

Annie Wang Cardiology

Annie (Manchen) Wang is a clinical research project lead in the Division of Cardiology who joined the DOM in 2024 after graduating from Johns Hopkins University. She leads multi-center clinical research and real-world evidence initiatives to generate evidence to improve patient outcomes and advance cardiovascular medicine. She currently serves as the central point of contact for investigators, industry sponsors, analysts, research staff, and operational teams, coordinating complex multi-center real-world evidence programs across institutions. These efforts generate evidence that informs clinical decision-making, healthcare policy, and treatment access across the United States and internationally. Colleagues describe her as the “go-to person,” “a person of her word” who keeps large multidisciplinary projects moving forward through exceptional organization, proactive problem-solving, and an ability to anticipate challenges before they arise. Beyond her direct research responsibilities, Annie is passionate about using artificial intelligence to enhance research efficiency, compliance, and knowledge sharing. She develops AI-enabled workflows and educational resources that help clinicians and researchers more rapidly onboard to new studies, reduce administrative burden, and accelerate research innovation.

Annie’s many nominators spoke with both praise and gratitude for her contributions to the division in their observations. “Annie is an invaluable mentor and resource to the team. She frequently assists with training new coordinators and onboarding team members, generously sharing her knowledge and experience to help others develop confidence and succeed in their roles. Her willingness to support colleagues, combined with her approachable and collaborative nature, has made a lasting impact on the team environment.” “[Annie] fosters an inclusive environment by actively listening to all stakeholders. Whether she is coordinating with clinical staff or engaging with project leads, Annie treats every individual with dignity, creating a collaborative atmosphere that brings out the best in everyone. She understands that the strength of our research lies in its representation. Annie has been instrumental in ensuring that project workflows remain accessible and inclusive, reflecting UCSF’s commitment to serving a broad and diverse community.”

Congratulations, Annie!
