Staff Spotlight: Ruth Imru, NP
Ruth Imru is a Nurse Practitioner in the UCSF Electrophysiology clinic. She grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and came to the Bay Area for college, making it her home since then. Eleven years ago, Ruth started her career at UCSF Medical Center as an inpatient nurse on the kidney/liver/pancreas unit. She is an alumnus of the UCSF School of Nursing, where she obtained her master’s degree and Nurse Practitioner training.
Ruth was always fascinated with cardiac physiology and joined the Electrophysiology clinic 4 years ago. She said “I was ecstatic to get the opportunity to join the UCSF Electrophysiology team who are such great pioneers in the field and known for their excellence. It’s been such a blessing for me to be able to work with such talented providers who have been wonderful mentors to me and colleagues to work with.” Ruth enjoys helping and empowering patients that are dealing with complex cardiac arrythmia and works closely with many members of the EP team, she is known for her patient centered and team-oriented approach. Greg Marcus, MD noted, “Ruth simultaneously makes the lives of faculty easier while delivering truly outstanding care to our patients. She is conscientious, always eager to jump in and contribute, always interested in learning, and, as a result, has developed sharp clinical acumen and deep expertise. Working with her is a joy.”
Outside of work, Ruth enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, outdoors, ancient history documentaries, listening to health and wellness podcasts, and traveling.
