Growing up in Aurora, Colorado as the son of Ethiopian immigrants, Simon Feseha, MD, witnessed health disparities that inspired him to become a doctor. He earned his bachelor’s degree in both neuroscience and molecular, cellular and developmental biology (MCDB) from the University of Colorado Boulder. During medical school at the University of Colorado, he conducted calcium channel research with anesthesiologist Slobodan Todorovic, MD, PhD. He also co-led White Coats for Black Lives, working to address health disparities by building curriculum to help medical students identify implicit bias.

He completed internal medicine residency at UCSF, conducting atrial fibrillation research with cardiologist Nelson Schiller, MD, and health disparities research with cardiologist Michelle Albert, MD, MPH, founding director of the UCSF NURTURE Center (Study of Adversity and Cardiovascular Disease Center). “I have been very fortunate to work with many world-class faculty at UCSF who have been incredible mentors,” said Dr. Feseha. He plans to become a cardiac electrophysiologist and researcher focused on improving arrhythmia care in underserved communities. He enjoys live music events and hiking with his wife, Asni Solomon, who inspires him to be the best version of himself.
