Aamir Javaid, MD, grew up in the Bay Area and the Washington, D.C. suburbs. As a child, he received treatment for an adrenal tumor. “What stayed with me wasn’t just the treatment, but how my doctors made me feel: safe and cared for,” he said. That experience sparked his lifelong commitment to putting patients at the center. He earned his bachelor’s degree in the biology of global health from Georgetown University and his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, then completed internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

His research has focused on using computational methods and AI to advance cardiovascular prevention efforts and support delivery of precision medicine, such as interpreting coronary artery calcium in young adults and analyzing public perception of drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy in social media posts. He is particularly interested in using AI to improve cardiovascular disease prevention. “AI models are the next frontier,” said Dr. Javaid. “I chose UCSF for fellowship because many faculty focus on this area, and the Bay Area is the heart of AI.” Besides medicine, he enjoys playing jazz saxophone and studying history.
